If you live in an apartment you can easily do this. Here I have mint in the red pot, in the one next to it is what nurseries call a bug away mix it contains mint, basil, and rosemary. These three can all be used for other purposes. In the black pots are flower seed mix coneflower (echinacea) and bee balm.
If you are lucky like I was you might have fruit trees already on your lot. My town one has two pear trees that are starting to make. It's been a rainy summer here in Kansas so far so the plants/trees are really blooming. Can't wait to harvest these and make some delicious pear butter for french taost.
If you own your property you can make a small strawberry bed.... use some old brick or whatever you have for edging, purhcase some garden soil to mix in with what you have, get a bale of straw and your ready to grow some. Here are some of my starts. This is a new patch as my old one was about six yrs old and depleted.
This is an area behind my gate I had to let lay fallow for a few yrs because it had to be sprayed to get rid of weeds and poison ivy. It has peppers, tomatoes and now green beans planted in it. Before I moved here the peppers and tomatoes were in the pots you saw above on my porch. So even when I lived in an apartment I did container gardening.
If you are lucky and have a large yard and don't want to mow alot you can turn it into a productive lot used to produce for you. This is an area by my fence taht I decided to grow some blackberries tihs patch is brand new. The starts were given to me by the same aunt and uncle I got Duke from.
Duke used to be chained here and killed all the grass and dug so many holes I decided to move him and work the ground the old fashioned way so with a shovel and garden hoe I broke up the ground and planted corn. I was worried with all the rain it drowned but here it is coming up. As the summer goes on I will share with you how the garden is coming.
Up ahead my walk on the Katy trail here in town and some surprising finds along the way....
